Brundibár is on his way!!
In March, 2016, Theatre Kavanah and In Tandem Arts will present an original conception of Brundibár: A Musical Folktale. Brundibár was written by Jewish Czech composer Hans Krása shortly before the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia. The work was smuggled into the Terezín concentration camp where it was performed by the children there no fewer than 55 times. The piece itself contains a message of strength in unity and the power of the collective voice to overcome oppression, a message as critical today as it was in 1944.
To put this historically significant work in context, we are proud to present four lectures on related subjects, the first of which will take place on Saturday, February 6th:
FEBRUARY 6, 7:30 pm
"Children, Music, Art, and Hope"

Today, with few exceptions, the presence and cultivation of the arts have diminished in schools nationwide, while cognitive subjects are taught and endlessly tested. Brundibár speaks to the value of the arts for children in extreme circumstances. All children need the arts, and the power of Brundibár testifies to that need, not just with regard to children helplessly caught in dire situations, but to all the world's children.
ALL LECTURES ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
