Here's some more to think about, borrowed from a well-written note from one of our hosts:

As a software entrepreneur, and a former board member of the Vermont Telecommunications Authority, I’ve often been frustrated with how little our elected officials understand about the new economy – and what it takes to make companies like mine thrive in Vermont. Matt has grown software businesses in Vermont, though, and he understands technology and the new economy better than any other candidate.

As Google’s Head of Community Affairs, Matt has been instrumental in bringing state of the art broadband connectivity to underserved communities around the world. The importance of reliable, widespread connectivity cannot be understated. There’s a great study that Colorado did, that found that a significant portion of entrepreneurs who had brought businesses to that that state had first visited there on vacation. Today, Colorado has a thriving technology community, and the state is booming. We have a similar opportunity to lure entrepreneurs to our beautiful state – but they aren’t going to come if we don’t have the broadband infrastructure to support them here. As governor, one of Matt’s top priorities will be to ensure that we have the resources in place (starting with universal broadband) to make Vermont not just a good place to build a tech business – but one of the best. We can get there, with his leadership.

There are various other examples of practical things we can be doing to improve our state’s economy, and make Vermont a place where our kids, and their kids, will be able to not just live and work – but thrive.

I’m very excited to be supporting Matt, and hope you’ll join me Wednesday, February 3 for a chance to meet with Matt, and learn more about his plans to transform Vermont’s economy. I think those of you who live in Stowe will also be very interested to hear Matt’s approach to education financing. He has been a vocal opponent of Act 46 – the law that is forcing school consolidation. Matt is the right candidate for Stowe, and for Vermont. I’m proud to have him as a friend, and even more proud to be supporting him in this race.

Learn more about Matt’s impressive background and qualifications below.

Who is Matt?
Matt Dunne is the only candidate for governor with the leadership and management experience in the public and private sectors needed to transform state government and build an economy that works for all Vermonters. With deep roots in Vermont and twenty years of executive leadership experience, Matt will bring a fresh approach to governing and move our economy into a new era.

Deep Roots in the Green Mountain State
Matt was raised in Hartland, Vermont. His ancestors and family members were dairy farmers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.
When Matt’s father passed away, the Hartland community rallied around his family, supporting Matt through his high school and college years. Matt and his wife Sarah are raising their children Judson, Abe, and Cora in the Hartland farmhouse where Matt grew up.

Over a Decade of Accomplishment in Elected Office
Elected to the Vermont House of Representatives by his community at the age of twenty two, Matt went on to serve four terms and was known for working across the aisle to get things done. Matt served as Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee, where he helped to negotiate the Vermonter Amtrak service, bringing the Ethan Allen Express service to Rutland. Matt wrote the first legislation dedicated to the redevelopment of downtowns, created the Vermont Film Commission, and wrote the Land Recycling Act, the first legislation to encourage redevelopment of abandoned industrial sites. While serving, Matt was elected by his peers to serve as House Majority Whip and helped guide the caucus agenda, communications, and fundraising. He also co-founded the UVM Legislative Research Shop to bring more objective research to the citizen legislature.

Matt later served two terms in the Vermont State Senate, representing Windsor County. As a senator, Matt served on the Institutions and Appropriations Committees, developing critical parts of the state budget. He also spearheaded the creation of a standing Economic Development Commi
