On Friday September 27th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., artist Chepe Cuadra, originally from Nicaragua, will give an artist's talk followed by a reception with traditional Nicaraguan food, and Nicaraguan street sounds. The show is entitled, "Back Portraits: A Search for Identity." The large-scale oil paintings are life-sized portraits of people from the back engaged in activities, mostly showing labor or work.
Cuadra describes a journey as a foreigner living in multiple countries, seeking identity. Through his back portraits he records emotions, situations and history. He can "connect with a lost or forgotten part of my history, my family history, my friends’ history. By painting back portraits I am reconnecting with my inner self."
The show is up for viewing from September 3rd through October 25th. Hours are Mon. - Fri. 9-5 and other times by appointment. Artist's website: www.chepecuadra.comI am continually amazed at how culturally rich and diverse offerings find their way to Bristol, Vermont.
