A public panel and discussion, “Champlain Parkway Let's Do It Right”, takes place Wednesday, February 3, 6:30 p.m. at Arts Riot, 400 Pine Street. Learn about choices and alternatives to the current design. Learn the importance of safety as the current Parkway design typifies street design which helped U.S. highway safety rank sink among nations from 1st in the early 1990s to 19th today.

Four Burlingtonians present: former longtime Burlington Department of Public Works Director and City Engineer Steve Goodkind, P.E., transportation analyst Tony Redington, MPA, architect Diane Gayer, AIA, and moderator Charles Simpson, PhD, retired professor of sociology.

Sponsored by resident groups including Safe Streets Burlington (SSB) (we want safety all who travel on foot, by bicycle and by car!), the event addresses history elements, the current Parkway design defects and unsafety, and alternatives as well as opportunities possible in re-design. All those attending are invited to the conversation! Sponsors in addition to SSB include: South End Alliance (SEA), Coalition for a Livable City (CLC) and the Vermont Design Institute (VDI).
