"Improvisation Within a Discipline": Basketball, Obama and Our Times

Dear Neighbors,
On Monday evening at 7:30 at Dana Auditorium on the Middlebury campus I'll screen and comment on images from my new book The Audacity of Hoop during a program called "'Improvisation Within a Discipline': A Discussion on Basketball, Barack Obama and Our Times." Most of the photos are from the lens of Pete Souza, the official White House photographer.
I'm really curious to hear from four respondents who'll join me: Middlebury faculty members Matthew Dickinson, a political scientist and presidential scholar; Rachael Joo, an Americanist who studies sport and society; and Jim Ralph, a civil rights historian; as well as independent scholar Claude Johnson, who founded Baller-in-Chief.com, a Web site devoted to Obama and basketball, and currently serves as executive director of the Black Fives Foundation.
There will be plenty of time for audience questions and discussion, and afterward the Vermont Book Shop will sell copies for signing.
