We're Surrounded! Find Out What to Do About It!

Are you a Johnson, Cambridge, Morrisville, Hyde Park, or any surrounding Town or Village official? On the Road Crew, Conservation Commission, or Planning Commission? Do you work in the woods or in any business that deals with wood? Does your stock come in on pallets? Do you work with a Utility company? How about campgrounds and recreation areas? In that case you’ll want to put Wednesday, October 2 on your calender. At the Municipal Building at 6:30, the Regional Invasive Insect Planning Team will lay out the financial ramifications of the impending Emerald Ash Borer infestation and the State and Federal laws and quarantines that will be triggered governing any aspect of handling hardwood. After that fairly long boring (get it?) sentence, let me just say that this little green monster is literally surrounding this state, will be affecting anyone who deals with Right of Way trees on public roads, never mind loggers and firewood dealers, and will affect our budgets in ways you haven’t imagined. You need to know what’s coming and Towns should have a plan in place to prepare for it. Lucky for us all that we have the RIIPT! Along with our State Forest Health Specialists, they’re willing to put lots of their time into helping prepare that plan. So be the proactive concerned citizen you are and attend on October 2, at the Johnson Municipal Building. You’ll get information, ideas and refreshments, and will see how a regional approach to the problem can benefit us all financially and environmentally.
