Mardi Gras at the Poultney Public Library

Past event
Feb 9, 2016, 2 to 8 PM

Come celebrate Mardi Gras at the Poultney Public Library on Tuesday, February 9. The library will be giving away Mardi Gras beads during regular open hours (2-8 pm) when visitors “flash” their library card. Children under 6, who are too young to get their own library card, can just say please to get their beads. A make-your-own-mask craft will also be available all day. Once you have your mask and beads, take a selfie with our New Orleans photo backdrop!

There will be a wide variety of Mardi Gras entertainment available at the library in the evening. Come in for New Orleans style jazz music, face painting, and King cupcakes. If you get the cupcake with the baby in it, you will be crowned the King or Queen of Poultney’s Mardi Gras celebration! At 6:30 join Jane Ramos, Louisiana native and Killington Librarian extraordinaire, to learn about the meaning and customs of Mardi Gras and for some Cajun storytelling.

In the meantime, check out the library window for a display of New Orleans themed stories and movies designed to bring a bit of The Big Easy to Vermont. This program is free and fun for all ages. For more information, call the library at 802-287-5556.
