The Helen Day Art Center is pleased to announce two new shows opening this Friday, January 22nd at 6:00: "Intimacy + Materiality" and "The People's Cloth Trade Show." Artist talks will be given by Sarah Amos and Liz Collins at 6:30.

Intimacy + Materiality explores material and pronounces the handmade or methods of making through the lens of contemporary studio, social, and design practices. Many of the ten artists come with expertise in traditional making techniques and their concepts - from costume to crochet, screen print to stitch - while others combine disparate materials to produce sculptural objects and collage.

List of Artists includes: Sarah Amos, Mike Andrews, Emily Barletta, Jodi Collela, Liz Collins, Elizabeth Fram, Wylie Sofia Garcia, Amy Honchell, J. Morgan Puett, Kathleen Schneider, Fraser Taylor

People’s Cloth Trade Show: The t-shirt is the problem plays off the concept of a textile trade show creating an immersive environment for visitors to learn about the global production of the t-shirt, and how to upcycle, reuse and extend the life of the t-shirt. The People’s Cloth Trade Show consists of a two part installation, Mapping Manufacturing Room and Leisure Time for Personal Production Room. Mapping Manufacturing area is a series of large scale chalk drawings, mapping the global production of the t-shirt and a pile of t-shirts donated by visitors to the exhibition.** Leisure Time for Personal Production area consists of a collection of upcycled t-shirt samples; rugs, basket cookers, and t-shirt shopping bags. Secondly there will be an instructional video of how to make a incubated basket cooker, with a work table for participants to make their own basket
