"Ethan Allen, Philosopher"

St. Michael’s College professor Patrick Standen will explore and explain Ethan Allen’s philosophy as set forth in his controversial text, “Reason – the Only Oracle of Man”.

Patrick Standen is a native Vermonter who grew up in Weathersfield, VT where the woods and early American history captured his interests. Today, he teaches philosophy at Saint Michael's College and medical ethics at the University of Vermont. He has also taught at Norwich and Castleton Universities. An unapologetic generalist his interests include philosophy, history, science, nature, literature and art. In December, He just returned from Cuba where he was researching Finca Vigia, Ernest Hemingway's farm.

He was educated at the University of Vermont where he studied philosophy, psychology and history and attended graduate school at Harvard University and Boston College. He lives with his wife in Burlington.
