“The Perils of Mr. Punch” follows the troubles and travails of puppetry’s favorite loudmouth, Mr. Punch. This is hand-puppetry at its best in a style that has entertained children for centuries. It addition to the puppet show, the program also features live music, sing-a-longs, classic jokes and gags, and audience participation. The program includes a two-person orchestra, specializing in early jazz music and American folk songs played on the cornet, ukulele, and bicycle pump. After the show the audience is always invited back stage to try their hands at puppetry.

The program is low-tech old-time spectacle, entertaining to children of all ages: from one to one hundred. Modern Times Theater’s handcrafted puppets and live music furnish a welcome respite for ears and eyes from run-of-the-mill digital and amplified entertainment.

Modern Times Theater is Rose Friedman and Justin Lander. They have travelled internationally as puppeteers, and are founding members of Vermont Vaudeville. Parents themselves, Friedman and Lander strive to present high quality children’s entertainment at an affordable price.
