For the January 24 walk, we'll go to the northwestern section of the Roaring Brook WMA. It would be good to meet at the store and car pool due to limited parking. Parking will need to be along the road near the Tyler Hill Road and Franklin Road intersection, which could be tough with snow banks. Lillis Pasture Rd is opposite Franklin Road, off Tyler Hill Rd.

If there is no or little snow there would be access for four wheel drive vehicles to drive in Lillis Pasture Road and follow the logging road beyond the last house. I believe the logging road is a snowmobile trail in winter.

Walk description: We will follow logging roads on moderate terrain to the northwestern section of the Roaring Brook Wildlife Management Area, largely wetlands with a large pond. The walk passes through recently logged woods owned by a forest management company. The walk would be approximately three miles, round trip. Allow about 2 hours.

An option would be a walk to spectacular Roaring Brook Falls, but that would be about 6 miles and 4+ hours, depending on snow conditions.

If it's cold and not snowy, there would be some great ice skating at the pond! Snowshoes or cross country skis would work for the hike, if there is snow.
