WHAT: WATERHOUSE SOLAR PROJECT PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING
WHEN: Monday, Jan 18, 2016; 6:30 PM
WHERE: Town Community Room
VOTE: Tues, Jan 19; Town/Village Offices (downstairs) 7:00 AM-7:00 PM
Monday's Public Information meeting will be held in the Town Community Room at 6:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, January 19, the Village of Hyde Park will conduct an Australian ballot in order to accept the Clean Renewable Energy Bonds and construct this project to serve Hyde Park Electric customers. The Board of Trustees has the responsibility to provide oversight of the Hyde Park Electric Department (“HPE”). That responsibility includes review of long-term energy planning that meets renewable requirements mandated by the Vermont legislature while still keeping the costs down for HPE customers.
At the January 18 hearing, presentations by Tim Hebert, Vice President, Energy New England and Chad Farrell, CEO, Encore Redevelopment will be followed by Q&A. The Public Service Board rulings and reports will be included.
While, there are many reasons why the Board believes that voting for this project is in the best interest of the Hyde Park Electric and its electric customers, here are four important reasons why we encourage Village residents to vote *YES* on January 19th:
• A 1 megawatt solar farm owned by the municipal and built in Hyde Park will offset $4,150,000 in energy and related costs over the life of the project.
• The energy produced by the solar project will help avoid $2,617,000 in penalty payments that the Electric Department would instead have to pay to the State, and in the early years allow for the sale of Renewable Energy Credits.
• When accounting for the capital costs and interest, as well as the cost to operate and maintain, this project will provide a total net savings of approximately $2,000,000.
• Importantly, Hyde Park Solar, Waterhouse Project is congruent with the Town and Village Comprehensive Plan, as well as the Village of Hyde Park's Article 13, adopted at the May, 2014 Village Meeting. Article 13 authorized the development of a Community Resiliency Program, which included the municipal ownership of local solar facilities.
PLEASE VOTE "YES" in support of the Waterhouse Solar Project at the Australian Ballot on January 19 in the Community Room at the Town/Village Offices.
