Form-Based Code Presentation- Wed 1/13, 6:30 Pm, City Hall- Contois
Neighbors- As you may have heard, the City is considering a new type of zoning code, called Form-Based Code, for our downtown. Form-based code is defined as a land development regulation that fosters predictable built results by using physical form (rather than separation of uses) as the organizing principle for the code. In order to educate the public on what Form-Based Code is, there is a presentation and discussion panel scheduled for Wednesday, January 13th at 6:30 PM in Contois Auditorium (City Hall). The panel will feature Lee Einsweiller, from Code Studio in Austin, Texas, who is a national expert on the creation of land development codes. Lee will be joined by Regina Mahony from the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission, David White, the Director of Planning & Zoning for the City of Burlington, and Andy Montroll, Planning Commissioner and Chair of the Joint City Council & Planning Commission Form-Based Code Committee. Together, these speakers will discuss form-based elements in zoning codes nationally, in Vermont, and right here in Burlington. If you can't make the meeting but want to know more, you can take a look at this presentation, http://bit.ly/1ZWLCGM , given by Planning and Zoning Director David White at our January 4th Council meeting and the latest draft of the code being considered- http://bit.ly/1ZgoFMr. Right now, a Joint Committee composed of members of the Planning Commission and City Council is working on this draft of the new code. Once this group completes its work, the code will then go to the full Planning Commission followed by the full City Council for further review. Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback.
