Jan. 27 NPA Program Announced

Past event
Jan 27, 2016, 7 to 9 PM

Jan 27, NPA will honor Ward 4 resident Bill Burrell, whose post on Lakewood FPF alerted Leddy Park neighbors to concerns about PCBs in the dirt pile. Jesse Bridges, Parks Dept, will join us to explain the remediation, and Hugo Martinez Cazon, State Dept of Environmental Conservation (DEC), who partnered with City on the remediation project, is invited too. Matthew Becker, DEC, has been invited to explain City/DEC plans for contaminated soil that is currently stockpiled in the Urban Reserve (removed from Moran Plant).

We can also ask Jesse about plans for the Island Line Trail in the North End. With it's many uses -- marathons, segway tours, wheelchairs, baby strollers, seniors with walkers, dogs on leash, cyclists, runners, roller bladers, and walkers -- it's crowded! Councilor Wright was on the "bike path" committee, and he can update us on plans and fundraising for that.

Elected officials (mayor, city councilors, legislators, school commissioners) are always invited, and appointed officials (board members and commissioners) are welcome too. Typically appointed officials come when something in their purview is on the agenda. (FYI: There are no representatives from the North End on the Parks Commission, but Councilor Hartnett is Chair of the standing committee of Council that oversees Parks.)

City Market is visiting all the NPAs to talk about their expansion plans. They are planning to open a store in the South End, and have received requests to consider North End as well. Would be a good time to invite Brian Bessery to come talk about his plans for the new market, and his innovative crowd source financing -- a first for the North End! (If you have a phone # for Brian, could you please send it to us -- 4and7npa@gmail.com . Store phone is apparently disconnected.)

The NPA sandwich boards are newly painted, and will go out weekend before the meeting. Agenda will be posted on official city website, and on the "unofficial" North End NPA blog, next week. You can receive blog updates by email -- http://wards4and7npa.blogspot.com/ .

Giving you a heads up on February 24 NPA: Ballot questions will be featured -- school budget, charter changes*, bonds?, citizen initiatives?. Steering Committee meets on Feb 3 to plan the agenda. Requests, ideas, suggestions and volunteers are always welcome!
