Let’s Celebrate:
Ending December with a great day of Exploratories.

Welcome to Holden Bouteiller, born on December 10th!

Students from the ⅚ are expanding the scope of their service learning projects by not only serving at the Senior Center but also serving at the Charlotte Children’s Center, the CCS Preschool and the Charlotte food shelf.

Our CCS students raised  $172.46  last week to help send a child with cancer to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta.  Our donation was made in memory of Ralph Scarpa, our friend and CCS staff member, who passed away last month.  We know Ralph would be happy that we are helping other kids.

Charlotte Central School will receive a $1,000 grant for a milk cooler. The grant was made possible by Vermont dairy farmers, and is coordinated through the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets. This grant round was particularly competitive, with three times as many applications as were able to be granted.

King Arthur Supports CCS “Bread and Community Service” Exploratory
Charlotte Central School kids had a great morning participating in a bread baking workshop sponsored by King Arthur Flour! A group of 21 students from grades K-4, with faculty members Kathy Lara, Miriam Lerner and Stephanie Barton, made several dozen rolls and 3 loaves of bread to share and donate to a local food shelf thanks to a donation from King Arthur Flour.

The workshop began by asking the children if they knew how bread was made.  Together students crafted an anchor chart of responses.  The lead into the science part of understanding yeast and its interaction was something that was said by one 1st grade student..."that to make bread you need a potion!"  This was an introduction into why and how to use yeast!

After a morning of measuring, mixing, kneading and baking children listened to a story and wrote a reflection about their experience.  Each child left with a dough scraper and a recipe booklet as well as a roll that they helped to form and that was baked on collaborative community trays.

Celebrate the Arts Night
On Thursday evening, CVU celebrated the Arts with work from all of CSSU’s schools featured. CCS Art teacher Alice Trageser hung the work of 32 middle school students from CCS as part of the celebration.  You can also see the amazing artwork of all of our students proudly hung throughout the hallways of CCS.
