The snow is finally here!
SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS TO WARM UP YOUR WINTER WITH THE NORDIC RENDEZOUS (formerly knows as the Romance Marathon and Tour) AT THE RIKERT NORDIC CENTER IN RIPTON.
Gather your family and friends for a weekend of winter magic. Revel in our shared love of snow, brisk air, pink cheeks, skiing, and heart-warming fires over the weekend ofFebruary 13-14, 2016.
Rikert Nordic Center in Ripton is hosting the first annual Nordic Rendezvous. Join friends, old and new, for this celebration of winter. The event begins with an afternoon ski on Saturday, then as dark settles, follow the luminaries and gather around the bonfire, warming us on the outside while hot cider warms us from within. Enter the historic Bread Loaf Barn where the great stone fireplace will be ablaze, keeping us cozy while the buffet of hot soups and chili, breads, and salads nourishes us. Wine, beer and cider will be available at a cash bar. Then, what fun to push the tables aside and kick up our heels for a good old fashioned BARN DANCE! We will be accompanied by the local group ATLANTIC CROSSING, playing toe-tapping music with New England music roots and traditional songs with Celtic origins.
Sunday morning the weekend will round off with the BACK TO THE BARN TOUR, a half-marathon ski (or a distance of the skier’s choice) on scenic trails filled with woodland magic. You will wax poetic when the trail leads you to the cabin where Robert Frost wrote, tucked on a hillside at the edge of a snowy wood. Along the way you will be refreshed and energized by stops offering hot blueberry soup, and more. Top off your day with a bowl of hearty soup before you make your way home.
Saturday’s Schedule
3:00-4:30 – time for a light ski
4:30-5:30 – luminaries, hot cider around the bonfire
5:30-7:00 – buffet dinner in the barn
7:00-8:30 – push back the tables for a barn dance with Atlantic Crossing
Sunday’s Schedule
8:30-9:30 – bib pick up ( early starters sign in and leave for ½ marathon tour)
10:00 – casual start; follow the course to Frost’s Cabin with treats along the way
12:00-2:00 – lunch in the Barn; check into the barn to return your bib and pick up your lunch ticket, then join your friends
for a fun RAFFLE before you head home.
