January's Armchair Naturalist Features "Raptors of Vermont"

Past event
Jan 21, 2016, 7:30 to 8:45 PM

At January's Armchair Naturalist program you will learn about and visit with our Vermont neighbors… raptors! These are birds that hunt and feed on other animals. These birds are characterized by keen vision that allows them to detect prey during flight and powerful talons and beaks. Hawks, eagles, vultures, kites, owls, ospreys and falcons are all among the birds considered raptors, or birds of prey. A couple of wild guests will attend the presentation. We will be introduced to the birds we are blessed to have here in Vermont and explain why they are so important and how Vermonters can help them thrive.

Our Speaker: Craig Newman is a co-founder and director of the Outreach For Earth Stewardship (OFES) founded in 1989. He has worked with birds of prey for almost thirty years in both rehabilitation and education. OFES (www.ofesvt.org) continues to provide education programs using wild ambassador raptors on site at Shelburne Farms, schools and other locations.

Date, time, location: Thursday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the New Haven Town Hall/Gym (North Street next to Beeman School).
