"The Trial" is a 1993 British movie starring Kyle Maclachlan based on the Franz Kafka novel with a screenplay by Harold Pinter. It's a remake of the black and white 1962 movie with Anthony Perkins and Orson Welles. While the 1962 version is better known, this color version is a little more watchable for those not totally prepared for the "kafkaesque". The story is a about Joseph K. a bank clerk, who wakes one morning to find the police in his apartment charging him with a ctrime which is never specified. As the story unfolds, Joseph K becomes entangled in a bureaucratic system which is increasingly surreal. Rated PG 13. At The 99 Gallery and Center Saturday January 9 at 5 PM. On School St. across from the Family Dollar in Newport. 323-7759 for more info.
