Hello Lincoln Voters,
It's hard to believe that we are already thinking about Town Meeting. In fact, there are some important deadlines coming up soon.
*The first deadline is January 13th, at 5:00 p.m., which is when petitions are due if you want to submit a request for placing an article on the agenda for Town Meeting 2016. [17 V.S.A. 2103(13), 2642(a)(3)(A)] These petitions require signatures of 5% of the registered voters of Lincoln, which is 49 signatures at this time.
*The second deadline is January 25th, at 5:00 p.m. This is the last day to turn in ballot petitions and consent forms, to put your name on the ballot and run for a local office. [17 V.S.A. 2681(a)] These petitions require signatures of 1% of registered voters from Lincoln, which is 10 signatures.
Blank petitions and consent forms are available outside the door of the Town Office, or from the Town of Lincoln website: http://lincolnvermont.org/voting/ Quite often, these different types of petitions with different deadlines and different requirements can cause confusion.
