Craftsbury Conservation Commission Invasive Plant Identification Walk

Past event
Sep 28, 2013, 10 AM to 12 PM

Invasive plants such as Japanese Knotweed, Goutweed, European Buckthorn, and Tatarian Honeysuckle, are found throughout Craftsbury, smothering out the native plants and potentially leading to a lack of plant diversity. Biodiversity is critical for a healthy ecosystem in which native flora and fauna can thrive.

The Craftsbury Conservation Commission is hosting a walk through the Sterling College and neighboring properties to look at common invasive plants. We will identify many of the invasive plant species found in open fields, forests, hedgerows, and along roadways, and discuss plant morphology and how they spread. Future Conservation Commission workshops will include more specifics around invasive plant control and management techniques.

Please join us and learn more about the steps you can take to ensure we protect our local biodiversity. The walk will begin promptly at the corner of Sterling Drive and North Craftsbury Road in Craftsbury Common at 10 am. We will be walking on moderate terrain, rain or shine, so dress accordingly.

The invasive plant walk is sponsored by the Craftsbury Conservation Commission. For further information visit the Craftsbury website, www.townofcraftsbury.com, or contact Joe Houston (586-2536) or Farley Brown (586-9973).
