The State Board of Education is holding its monthly meeting in the library at Mill River Union High School on Middle Road in Clarendon next Tuesday, December 15. The meeting starts at, 9 AM, but the interesting part for us is that at 12:45 the Rutland South Study Committee will present its proposal to merge the school districts of Clarendon, Shrewsbury, Tinmouth, and Wallingford and Mill River Union into a Regional Education District. This is a merger of school boards, not schools. Tinmouth school will continue to operate as it does now. Under the Articles of Agreement a school cannot be closed without a unanimous vote of the Union school board and a vote of the town in which it is located. Tinmouth elementary school attendance is actually climbing! You can find the study at RSSU.org. If the State Board approves the proposal, the four towns will vote on it by Australian ballot on Tuesday, March 1. The temporary name of the union is White Rocks Union School District, but the Study Committee is asking for suggestions for a permanent name. Send yours to studycommittee@rssu.org.
On Tinmouth Town Meeting day, Saturday, February 27, there will be an information meeting on the proposal in connection with the School District meeting. The Study Committee will hold a forum in the Tinmouth Community Center at 7 PM on Wednesday, January 20. There will also be forums in the other towns, which you are welcome to attend.
If you have questions or comments, in addition to posting them on FPF you can call any of the school board members:
Grant Reynolds 446-3457 Sarah Graham (603) 496-5780 (cell) Alison Alexander 446-4600 or email Grant at grant62@vermontel.net and he'll share it with the others.
