The Green Mountain Youth Symphony (GMYS) presents the opening concert of their 15th Anniversary Season Saturday, December 12th at 3:30pm at the Barre Opera House. This concert showcases nearly one hundred young musicians in three orchestras, including students from North Fayston.

The GMYS Repertory, Concert, and Senior Orchestras will each perform a variety of seasonal favorites from Tchaikovsky and Leroy Anderson to highlights from the movie Frozen.

The Repertory Orchestra, conducted by Paul Perley, opens the concert followed by the Concert Orchestra, under the baton of GMYS Artistic Director Robert Blais. Then, Mr. Blais and the Senior Orchestra will take the stage. They are particularly excited about their program which features two special selections.

Vermont’s favorite storyteller, Willem Lange, and internationally acclaimed pianist, Diane Huling join GMYS for Howard Blake’s The Snowman, which also features Avi Isaacs-Corcoran as the soprano soloist. The second featured selection is the Lalo Cello Concerto, with GMYS Senior Soloist Jacob Zimet of Montpelier.
Tickets are available by donation at the door. Adults $15, Seniors $12, Students (K-12) $5, Children under 5 are free.

GMYS was founded to provide young musicians of Central Vermont with the opportunity to play and perform orchestral music in their own community with their peers. Now celebrating their 15th Anniversary Season, GMYS continues to offer a rich musical experience where children can pursue their interests and talents, find a vehicle for self-expression, and learn teamwork. GMYS now includes close to 100 young musicians from 30 towns throughout Vermont and New Hampshire and always has room for more.
