On Friday, December 11, 2015 at 7:00pm in the Dibden Center for the Arts on the Johnson State College Campus in Johnson, V the JSC Worlds of Music class will put down their notebooks, pick up their hand built instruments and perform music from Eastern Europe, Japan, Africa and Indonesia. They will perform a Macedonian folk song, play, sing and dance a Ghanaian song using the mbiras they built, perform a rendition of the familiar Japanese song, Sakura, on their kotos and play music from Indonesia on a full Javanese Gamelan Orchestra.
The second half of the concert will feature the 50 piece, fully instrumented JSC Concert Band playing music inspired by American folk songs including premiers of 2 pieces by the group’s director, Steven Light. There will be some familiar songs from many idioms of American music ranging from traditional folk songs to contemporary compositions to Jazz.
