Hi all-
Monday's regular Selectboard meeting will be held at the Elementary school, in part because we're holding a public hearing about the possibility of a local option sales tax. This tax would be an additional 1% beyond the state's 6% sales tax on items bought in or delivered to Berlin. I will be posting a more detailed explanation to Front Porch Forum in the next day or two, but we expect that, if it goes into effect, one of the possibilities that I like best is that property taxes would go down 10% and we'd put away some additional money for future road and infrastructure fixes and equipment purchases.
The 1% tax would not affect:
* Drugs, medical supplies & equipment
* Food
* Clothing
* Gasoline & diesel
* Cars
* Residential/farm utilities: electricity, oil, gas
Here's our overall agenda:
