The next Mount Mansfield school board meeting will be held on Monday December 7th at 6:30 PM at the Brewster Pierce Memorial School in Huntington. A tour of the facilities will be offered at 6:00 PM.

The meeting will begin with a presentation on the supervision and evaluation process for teachers throughout CESU, followed by community comment, and an oral report from the Brewster Pierce Principal. The board plans to appoint a treasurer and discuss town meeting day school director elections. Board members have 3 year terms, and each year 5 positions are scheduled to be on local ballots. This year, the open positions are 2 each in Richmond and Jericho, and 1 in Underhill. The board will “practice” Policy Governance and discuss when to decide whether to adopt that governance framework. We will receive reports from the Superintendent as well as Policy and Finance committees. The Superintendent’s Report includes recommending investigating the possible relocation of the CESU Central Office from rented space to Camels Hump Middle School, information on the process for Brewster Pierce’s potential merger into our Union, a lack of information from the VT Agency of Education delaying presentation of our budget, and rationale for the Treasurer recommendation.

The Finance Committee plans to finalize next year's budget proposal at their December 10th meeting at Central Office for presentation to the board on December 21st. The most recent budget draft is essentially flat. Tax implications will be determinate when information becomes available from the State later this month.

The Mount Mansfield Modified Union School Board and Chittenden East Supervisory Union Governing Board conventionally have joint meetings, generally the first and third Mondays of each month. MMMUSD includes Mount Mansfield Union High, Browns River Middle, Camel’s Hump Middle, Jericho Elementary, Richmond Elementary, Smilie Memorial (Bolton), Underhill Central, and Underhill I.D. schools. CESU includes Special Education, Transportation, and Central Office for both MMMUSD and the Huntington elementary school. The Brewster Pierce Memorial School Board (Huntington) meets separately.
