Just a few days until the Vt. Choral Union's 2015 holiday concerts in St. Albans, Dec. 5, at 7pm, Bliss Room in the Historical Museum, and Dec. 6 at 3pm, St. Paul's Cathedral, Burlington, VT. Each piece on the program reflects the season of Advent and the coming of Christmas, a radiant dawn that breaks the darkness, and a morning star that proclaims the birth of a savior: Gregorian chant, 13th Century English songs and chants; Renaissance polyphony by Palestrina and Gesualdo; three contrasting settings of 'How Bright Appears the Morning Star" by Bach, Praetorius, and Schumann; beautifully sensitive pieces by Vaughn Williams, Rachmaninoff, and Britten; a variety of other works and unique carol settings by contemporary composers and arrangers: James G. Chapman, Ivo Antognini, Alan Bullard, William Llewellyn, James MacMillan, Eric Whitacre, Ola Gjeilo, and our director, Jeff Rehbach! Joining us again this year is cellist Michael Close.
