~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ben Winship is a self taught musician who has been playing mandolin for over 30 years. He is a versatile player whose musical stew is a mix of bluegrass and old-time, dixieland and blues. Gigs have taken him from Hawaii to Shetland, Anchorage to Equator, with appearances along the way at places like the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, A Prairie Home Companion, NYC’s Bottom Line. In addition to playing the mandolin, Ben is also a well respected songwriter, singer & multi-instrumentalist. He tours frequently as a member of the New Reeltime Travelers, Brother Mule and the Growling Old Men.
Eli West is a Seattle-based multi-instrumental musician and interactive graphic designer. With an interest in angular phrasing and non-tradional improvisation within the historic precedents of bluegrass and old-time music, his playing both grounds and pushes the ensembles he is involved with. He has released three records with Cahalen Morrison, with whom he tours regularly throughout the US and Europe, and is an active ingredient playing guitar, banjo, and bouzouki with both Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project and John Reischman and the Pine Siskens.
In concert Eli & Ben are engaging and spontaneous as they make a big sound for two guys.
They strive to contrast simplicity with complexity; all with good tone and a warm sense of humor.
“Music like this doesn’t come along very often. This stuff just reassures me.” - Tim O’Brien
