Act 46 School Consolidation: Chittenden South Supervisory Union

One of the biggest decisions facing voters of Chittenden South Supervisory Union (CSSU) this decade could be whether or not to merge all of the CSSU school districts into one school district.

For years, the school boards of Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George, and Williston have cooperated closely to share many educational resources. With Vermont’s recent Act 46 School Consolidation Law, school boards are now required to consider taking action to formally consolidate governance of all schooling in CSSU.

In accordance with Act 46, a study committee has been formed. The CSSU Act 46 Study Committee, with representatives from each CSSU district, is charged with studying consolidating school governance. The committee shall prepare and submit a required report to the State Board of Education on the feasibility of combining all of the CSSU districts into one new district with one school board.

The CSSU Act 46 Study Committee welcomes community input. The first in a series of public forums on school consolidation will be held in November. (Other forums will occur after December and before a potential vote in May.)

The forum at HCS will be held on Monday, November 30 at 5:30 pm. All are welcome to attend.
