Community Messiah Sing to Benefit Homeless

Friends of Music at Guilford's annual Community Messiah Sing, held at Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro since the early '80s, has raised nearly $13,500 in door donations for the Brattleboro Area Drop In Center and Morningside Shelter since being rededicated as a benefit for the area's homeless population in 2007. These two agencies merged this year into the Groundworks Collaborative, which continues to offer shelter and food programs, as well as counseling and case management for individuals and families. . . . Friends of Music has assembled a fine veteran "cast" for this year's Sing: Terry Larsen as conductor, William McKim as organist (his 28th year in that capacity!), soprano Margery McCrum, alto Justina Golden, tenor James Anderson, and baritone Cailin Marcel Manson. YOU are invited to join the Tri-State chorus of attendees, which is typically 200 to 250 singers strong -- this year's sunny, 45-degree weather should guarantee a great turnout! If you don't sing, you'll find the music a thrill to listen to with such a massive chorus. Bring a score, borrow/buy one at the door, or pick one up at a regional music shop or online with quick shipping. Water is the only beverage allowed in the sanctuary, and bottled water is sold at the door. The FOMAG holiday boutique offers a few Sing and Christmas program CDs, as well as beautiful art cards, handy totes, and warm sweatshirts for gift-giving. A Groundworks collection outside the church will accept non-perishable foods, warm outerwear, longjohns, blankets, and new, unwrapped toys for the cause. FOMAG's 43rd Christmas at Christ Church in Algiers, Guilford, is coming up on December 11 & 12 -- watch this space for more on that annual holiday treat!
