Anima: the Soul of Winter

Anima, the central Vermont women’s vocal ensemble, will present a concert of Medieval and Renaissance music for the Advent season. The concerts will be Saturday, December 5th, 7 pm, at the Green Mountain Monastery on Hillcrest Road in Greensboro, and Sunday, December 6th,

6:30 pm (immediately following the tree-lighting), at the Cabot United Church in Cabot Village. Admission is by donation.

The concert will feature several settings of the revolutionary Song of Mary, or Magnificat, in which Mary declares that in a new world order, the mighty will be put down from their seats while the humble and meek are exalted. Other music features the coming of the light.

Composers include Hildegard of Bingen, Gilles Binchois, Guillaume Dufay, Francesco Soriano, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Giuliano Bonaugurio da Tivoli, and anonymous English and Corsican composers. Harp, vielle, and recorders will complement the singing.
