Happy Thanksgiving! Saturday's show is our last Chatauqua for this year. The room is filling up, we might have to turn people away this time.
TOM AZARIAN
Our guest artist is the legendary ex-millworker/ ex-farmer/ banjo-playing folksinging street performing artful-cartoonist and all-around character Tom Azarian, sometimes known as Tom Banjo. (Is he really a character in a Grateful Dead song? I think so.) He farmed in Cabot for many years.
I first got Tom to perform his then-new Cranky Show over thirty years ago at the first Vermont Storytelling Festival
Now he says he's done with it, he says he put his cranky-box down for good last year, but I talked him into bringing it out for at least one more show. He's in the area for Thanksgiving visiting his sons and grandchildren, and our venue satisfies his reasonable (but apparently hard to satisfy) requirements: a listening crowd of mixed children and adults all sitting up close, a darkened room, a place to plug in his device's backlight so his illustrations are properly luminous, somebody (me) willing to turn the crank and manipulate the occasional cardboard cut-out while he sings and talks and plays, short sets, and a fair deal..
Tom gave what he called a farewell concert of folk music last month, performing with his sons at Radio Bean in Burlington. His cranky show is unique: artisanal, original, down-home, funny, deceptively well-crafted, deeply rooted Americana. It must be experienced in person to be appreciated.

TIM & LEANNE
Leanne and I will perform "Wonderful Pot" and "Imps of Misfortune," two comic wish-fulfillment fantasies about feasters and famines from our most popular album, the award-winning King and the Thrush. Good stories, very appropriate to the season, fan favorites, tightly constructed and vigorously performed. If you haven't heard'em you should. If you've only heard the record, there's a whole dimension you've missed. If you/ve heard us tell them live before, well, so have we, lots of times, and yet we like them a little more each time they go by. That's the way these things work, when they're working right.

We'll play and sing some, too. Maybe we'll have time to work something up with Tom.
