The first work session for the Lakeside Park Skating Rink is this Saturday morning (Nov. 28) from 9 a.m. to noon. If you would like to volunteer during that time just show up or call/text George at 598-3409.
We will be putting up the boards, erecting our snow fences, and doing a few other jobs to prepare for a mid-December flooding. If the weather cooperates, the rink could be open by the first day of winter, which according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, begins this year on December 21, at 11:48 p.m.
This year’s rink will have new, brighter lights for our evening skating sessions; the rink is usually open til 9 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends, weather permitting.
The skating rink is a joint project with Lakeside residents and the Burlington Parks and Recreation Department, and is fully open to the public – hosting residents, visitors, and skaters from all over. Volunteers set up the rink, maintain and manage it through the season. We always need snow shovelers during and after a storm, and people to help with our regular “Zamboni” maintenance which keeps the ice smooth and safe. Get in touch if you’re interested in becoming an apprentice ‘rink meister.’
The budget is about $400 a year and contributions are welcome in any amount. Please deliver or send checks to “Ken Grillo” at 41 Central Avenue. We collect used ice skates in good condition and offer them for free use at the rink; you can leave skates at 58 or 62 Conger Avenue anytime.
We post rink news and updates on ice conditions on Facebook. Search for “Lakeside Skating Rink” on FB and hit the “Like” button to get news through the skating season. Thanks to all those who support and help on this community project!
