The Art House, in partnership with Sterling College, will be screening the documentary “A Self-Made Man.” The documentary takes a candid look at what it means to be transgender, told through an intimate portrait of trans youth advocate Tony Ferraiolo.
Ferraiolo is a transgender youth advocate who guides kids and their parents through the confusing journey of defining themselves, when their physical appearance conflicts with how they view themselves. As Tony comes to terms with all the complexities of his own life as a female-to-male transgender person, the kids and parents he counsels grapple with the reality of their uncertain future. “A Self-Made Man” examines the complicated dynamics of transitioning from multiple perspectives.
The screening will be held in Simpson Hall, Classroom 3, on December 4, at 6:30 p.m. The screening is free and open to the public, and there will be a discussion and refreshments to follow. The presentation is is part of the film series “Let’s Talk,” a series of documentaries presented by the Art House and Vermont PBS. Each month, the series will focus on different themes and will be shown in collaboration with different organizations.
