Thank you to all who attended the Budget Consultations earlier this month. At these sessions small group discussions focused on finding common ground regarding District programs and activities that are critical to student learning and must be maintained at current levels or even expanded, and those that are less critical. The Budget consultations were the first of several opportunities for community members to give input during the FY17 budget creation process. The final budget will be approved by Commissioners in January and presented to voters in March 2016.

As the next step in the budget process, Superintendent Obeng has utilized information from the Budget Consultations and an online Budget Consultation Input form to help construct a Draft Budget for presentation to Commissioners at the Finance/Infrastructure and Technology Committee meeting on Tuesday, November 24, at 7 pm in the Ira Allen boardroom, 150 Colchester Ave (BSD administration building). A Revised Draft Budget will then be presented at the full Board meeting on December 8. To stay involved in the critical work of creating the school budget, please consider coming to either -- or both -- of these meetings to hear the presentations and the board discussion, and to offer your thoughts during the public comment periods. Superintendent Obeng’s presentations and supporting budget documents also will be posted on the Budget page of the District website shortly before each meeting.
