Champlain Parkway and Alternatives to It Nov. 30

Past event

There will be a public meeting to discuss the Champlain Parkway on November 30th, 7 p.m. at The Champlain Elementary School.

The newly-formed Safe Streets Burlington sub-committee is presenting a number of recommendations to the City for a re-visioning of this outdated project: Stop, Re-evaluate, Re-Imagine.

In keeping with Burlington Bike/Walk Council recommendations, make sure that all new roads include separate cycle tracks and pedestrian walk ways (the current plan does not satisfy the Council’s basic recommendations for safety).

In keeping with national best practices for safety and the Council’s recommendations, include roundabouts at all busy intersections along the planned route. Money for such safety infrastructure is available and the public wants it to be used for this purpose.

Add a McCormick roundabout at the south end of Pine Street to improve connectivity between neighborhoods and shopping destinations.

The removal and handling of any toxic soil must be done responsibly and safely.

In response to public demand and our city’s own commitment to climate action, park and ride facilities tied to mass transit should be built and promoted.

Any plans should maintain the plan to divert truck traffic from neighborhoods.

And I want to add that we use the available, ready to go, railroad, too, to run between Middlebury and Burlington, as another alternative to using cars!

Thank you!
