I'd like to encourage you to come to the Cabot contra and square dance this Saturday, or perhaps to the next dance, on Dec 12, or on any 2nd Saturday, at 7:30 in the Willey Building. This is a really fun, welcoming dance, with most of the dancers being your neighbors, generally with a few out-of-town dancers, which adds a little spice. The callers we've had are ones who pack the Montpelier Grange when they call there, and are invited to be on staff for dance weekends all over the country, and we're lucky enough to have them calling in our home town! And the live music is great!

And yet, many of the Cabot friends I hope to see at the dance have never even tried it, and others have come only once or twice, or not in a very long time. It appears to me that everyone at the dance enjoys it tremendously, but yet we have quite low attendance many months. It's so much more fun when a bunch of people come, and it seems such a shame to feel that this community resource/opportunity is being missed by so many. We are fortunate that there's no cost to use the space, but the donations at the door can't be enough to pay the caller a decent amount some months, and I fear that the dance will not survive without more people coming.

I know the feeling, especially as the weather gets colder, of being cozy at home after dinner and not feeling like venturing out, but this kind of dancing is good for your spirit and sense of well-being, and you can do it even if you have two left feet, and I promise you'll feel connected and happy by the end of the evening. If you have a bum knee, you can just sit and listen and watch. Get a friend to come, too, if that's more appealing. And kids of all ages are always welcome! Even if you're busy this Saturday, please get out your calendar and fill in the dance on every 2nd Saturday through May, so that you see it as an option to consider. I would LOVE to dance with you!
