Dear Neighbors,
Before I get to the Council meeting preview a few other items:
The Rotary. Thank you for your patience at the Shelburne Street Rotary during the next few weeks that work is being done. This is important work that will lay the groundwork for relocating utility lines. The work is now being done during the day to avoid after hours noise.
Mornings with Miro. Tuesday morning, November 10 from 8-9am at Feldman’s Bagels is a wonderful opportunity to talk with the Mayor, share your ideas, offer input, get an update on an issue important to you and hear from your neighbors about their concerns. We hope you can make it.
Burlington Telecom: Criteria for a New Owner. There will be two opportunities, November 18 at noon and November 20 at 5:30pm (both in Contois Auditorium in City Hall), to offer your input on what criteria you consider most important in evaluating a potential owner of BT. If you can’t make these meetings, there will be additional opportunity for public comment during the month. I will post on FPF about these meetings again as the date gets closer.
Now, on to the Council meeting preview…
On Monday, the City Council will hold the first of two meetings for the month of November.
The Council will begin its evening at 7pm with reports from the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission, the Burlington Board of Health and the Howard Center Street Outreach Team.
We have five items on our deliberative agenda. The first is an indoor entertainment permit for Zero Gravity on Pine Street to show a film screening from 6 to 10pm on December 10. The second is a communication from Executive Director of Channel 17 (and Ward 6 resident), Lauren-Glenn Davitian on their FY17 municipal budget proposal and amendment of the Channel 17 Government Access Channel Trust Agreement.
We have a communication and update on the Divestment/Investment Committee from Councilor Selene Colburn who is the chair of this committee. We also have a communication on hate speech, harassment ad crime and police response also from Councilor Colburn.
Our last item of the evening is a communication regarding the Burlington Police Department’s analysis of the For-Hire Vehicle Operation in Burlington. The action on this communication will be to refer it to the Ordinance Committee.
Our last items on our agenda are Council committee reports, comments from Councilors and the Mayor.
As with all Council meetings, please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm. Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website: https://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public All Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone.
As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please be in touch over the weekend and on Monday.
I hope you all enjoy a terrific weekend.
My best,
Karen
