As part of the Family Room Parent/Community Advisory Council, I'm posting to notify all stakeholders (our community), that with a brief two week notice, our parent organization is scrabbling to reach out to everyone, from the medical, social service, and educational providers, participants that use the Janet Munt Family room on Allen Street (Old St. Joseph's School building), and concerned community members, that on November 4th, we will lose 1/3 of our paid staff and face a decrease in capacity, both in hours available and referrals given. This is our Parent Child Center for Chittenden County, one of 15 in Vermont, that has had level funding since 1995 (yes 20 years!), and struggling through fundraising and grant writing to cover the difference. This center is the entry point for young mothers, often single and coming out of unhealthy relationships, dads, yes, some of them the primary caregiver,or trying to stay connected with their kids, grandparents raising their grandkids, and refugees trying to find a stable supportive environment including a positive, strong parenting support, and finally the children, from ages birth to age 6, treated with value, respect, and educational resources for receiving the important learning skills to ready them for entry into elementary school. Nearly every agency or doctor has referred families to this Parent Child Center. And most importantly we want to acknowledge the hard work, Janet Munt did to establish and put together this program in 1988. Let us continue and bring together our resources and find a way of helping in these times where even more people come through the door. Meeting will be this Tuesday, November 3, from 6-8pm at the AALV office just on the right side of the old School steps, on 20 Allen Street. We will also be breaking into working groups to organize successful meeting. For more information: familyroomfolk@gmail.com
