Please join the Starksboro Historical Society at the Village Meeting House in Starksboro for a program on the Civil War on November 5th. This year marks the end of the war 150 years ago. Many Starksboro men took part and a number actually enlisted in the same building in which we will meet! Beginning at 7PM on November 5th, we will have an evening filled with Starksboro and area residents sharing their knowledge and artifacts surrounding Civil War-era weaponry, music, and clothing for men and women. Starksboro Historical Society members will provide an overview on Starksboro's role in the Civil War. The event is free and the public is very welcome.
Mike Blakeslee, Pat Hendee and other members of their Civil War re-enactors group (Champlain Valley Reenactors) will model clothing, weaponry, and other related items. Susan Peden will model women's clothing that would have been worn in Starksboro during this time period. Jim Peden will show a progression of rifles pre-Civil War to the Civil War with a series of 3 guns. Lausanne Allen will entertain us with music from this time period. Attendees are invited to bring their family's Civil War stories, photographs and artifacts to share.
Please join us at 7PM on Thursday, November 5 at the Starksboro Village Meeting House. Located on VT Route 116 in the center of Starksboro, the Meeting House was built 1838-40 in the Gothic Revival and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The ground floor was the original town hall, and the upstairs sanctuary was shared by three congregations. For questions call 453-2079. Light refreshments provided.
