The League of Women Voters (LWV) welcomes you to a free presentation and discussion on Money In Politics.

LWV member, Ann Luther of Maine, will discuss Money In Politics – Whose Democracy Is It? on Sunday, November 8th at Montpelier City Hall, Memorial Room, 39 Main Street from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

As Treasurer and Advocacy Chair of the League of Women Voters of Maine, Ann has worked for greater public understanding of key public policy concerns and the League’s priority issues in Clean Elections & Campaign Finance Reform, Voting Rights, Ethics in Government, and Repeal of Term Limits. She also serves as Treasurer of Maine Citizens for Clean Elections, a nonprofit that advocates, defends, and works to improve the Maine Clean Election Act and related campaign finance law.

The Supreme Court’s series of controversial decisions expanding the amounts of money in politics by characterizing political donations and expenditures to be exercises of freedom of speech has demolished campaign reforms and created a large and growing category of election related donations and contributions called “dark money.”

The League of Women Voters is deeply committed to reforming our nation's campaign finance system to ensure the public's right to know, combat corruption and undue influence, enable candidates to compete more equitably for public office and allow maximum citizen participation in the political process.

Ann served as president of the Maine LWV State Board, from 2003 to 2007 and co-president as of 2007 to 2009. She is recipient of the ACLU of Maine 2013 Roger Baldwin Award.
