Stowe High School will be welcoming a small number of 9th graders from Xiangjiang High School in Guangzhou, China into our school for the Spring 2016 semester. These students are studying an "international track" at their high school in China, with the hope of eventually attending college in the United States — what better way to give them their first experience than starting off with a semester in Stowe?
We are looking for flexible, open-minded families to host these students for the spring semester! Hosting a student is a great way to engage your family with another culture, and to build global awareness and connections within our community.
Host families receive a stipend of $800 per month, and also have 24/7 support from me as the Spiral International's Student Services Coordinator for Stowe and Montpelier schools. I teach Chinese at Stowe, and I will be these students' go-to person for anything that comes up. I am here to support families and students to make the semester a success, from providing logistical support (like cell phone setup) to helping bridge linguistic or culture barriers and work through the stages of culture shock.
We will have an informational meeting for any interested families THIS THURSDAY evening at 6:00pm at Stowe High School. Stop on by before or after parent-teacher conferences for Stowe Middle School; we are in the same building. Families who are attending the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony at 6:30, swing by the Chinese classroom before it begins to grab some informational materials!
