Public Meeting Announcement: Leddy Soil Stock Pile Update

Past event
Nov 12, 2015, 6 to 7:30 PM

Date: Thursday, November 12
Time: 6-7:30 PM
Location: Leddy Arena Meeting Room

The analytical results of the recently completed soil testing of the Leddy Park stockpiles have confirmed that PAH's (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), PCB's (polychlorinated biphenyls) and lead are present in the stockpiled soil at concentrations that are consistent with the initial soil testing in November 2014.

The most recent round of testing was significantly more robust, procedurally compliant with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements, and yielded results that were much more representative of each of the four discrete stockpiles when compared to the preliminary testing. The current tests, which included a sample of sediment from a downstream drainage swale, also confirmed that PCBs did not migrate from the stockpile to this swale.

The results of the tests have been submitted to both the State of Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation and the EPA. The EPA will determine jurisdiction of the soil, which will ultimately dictate disposal and/or reuse options. These will be discussed at a public meeting on November 12, 2015, where the community will have an opportunity to provide their input.

The City is ahead of the publicly agreed upon schedule, which commits to having a plan in place for management of these soil by the end of December 2015. More info at: http://enjoyburlington.com/2015/10/22/update-on-the-soil-testing-in-leddy-parking-lot/
