Please join us Tuesday, October 27th for an evening with Gary Stroutsos—world flute artist and cultural storyteller. The free concert is sponsored by the Norwich University Campus Activities Board, and it will be held at Norwich in White Chapel from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Stroutsos performs world flute music drawn from traditional cultures on a range of flutes that includes Native American flutes, rim flutes inspired from ancient artifacts from the American Southwest, and Chinese Bamboo flutes seldom heard outside the walls of China. Originally trained as a Jazz flutist, Stroutsos’ work now features American Indian music and Chinese, Cuban and American Jazz stylings, reflecting his diverse musical influences. In addition to numerous recordings and appearances, His music has been showcased in the Ken Burns PBS documentary “Lewis and Clark: Journey of the Corps of Discovery,” and more recently in the film “Desert Dreams: Celebrating Five Seasons in the Sonoran Desert” that has recently appeared on many PBS networks. The evening concert will also feature poetry readings from three Norwich faculty poets.
