Rokeby Museum Celebrates National Bat Week

Past event
Oct 25, 2015

Kick off National Bat Week at Rokeby Museum on Sunday, October 25 at 3:00 pm when state wildlife biologist Alyssa Bennett will deliver a “state of the bat” address.

Vermont’s bats have been under siege by disease – and losing ground – for years. Five of the state’s nine bat species are listed as either threatened or endangered. A fungus – the mysterious “white nose syndrome” – has attacked bats and decimated their numbers around the state. Bennett will explore new research that offers a glimmer of hope for the future. She and colleagues at the Department of Fish and Wildlife have studied little brown bats – tagging and following them – for several years. The critters’ fortunes may be turning around – or at least not getting worse.

Program is $2 or free with Museum admission
