On Saturday, Sept. 21, Planting Hope will host "The ReUse Fair, "A celebration of sustainable communities," at Christ Episcopal Church on State Street in Montpelier from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The ReUse Fair is meant to foster a broader understanding of how one person can have an effect on their community and the environment. The event will also highlight how reusing items for new and interesting purposes not only keeps them out of the waste stream, but can even help people in other communities.
The event includes art, music, arts and craft vendors, games and activities, and demonstrations. Music will be by local favorites Dave Keller, Chad Hollister, and Mark LeGrand, Michael T and the Aristocrats and the Labor Days, as well as Nicaraguan Folkloric Dance Troupe.
An outdoor sculpture park curated by artist Janet Van Fleet, features the work of UVM art professor Beth Haggart, as well as 10 other local artists, on the Church's Front yard park space. There will be more than 15 artists and crafters that utilize found objects, repurposed and up-cycled items and offer them for purchase in the parking lot behind the church.
There will also be games, activities and craft for kids by our partners ReSOURCE and speakers on several subjects relating to steps we can take to making a sustainable community. Food is available for purchase.
This is a Zero-Waste Event and is made possible with support from Central VT Solid Waste Management's Lawrence Walbridge Grant, Ben & Jerry's Foundation, Community National Bank, Bolduc Auto Salvage and Sally's Second Act in Middlesex, Antiques at 110 Main, The Point and Capitol Copy.
Suggested Donation is $1-$10 per person or by bringing quality used clothing or educational materials to donate to our projects in Nicaragua. All proceeds benefit Planting Hope's educational and cultural exchange projects in Vermont and NIcaragua. Hope to see you there! For a link to the poster, click: http://plantinghope.org/?page_id=378
