Get Your Halloween Spook On
Alfred Hitchcock and the Art of Suspense
“I am a typed director. If I made Cinderella, audiences would immediately be looking for a body in the coach.” Alfred Hitchcock’s career spanned 40 years and many film eras. The Varnum Memorial Library invites you to join film expert Rick Winston to discuss the evolution of Hitchcock’s craft, favorite themes, and inimitable sense of humor--no matter how grisly the subject matter. Drawing on 12 film clips starting with his 1925 silent The Lodger, and progressing to his classics Notorious and Rear Window, Winston illuminates the arc of Hitchcock’s brilliant career.
Presenter Rick Winston co-owned Montpelier’s Savoy Theater for 29 years, and has been Programming Director for Green Mountain Film Festival for 14 years. He has taught film history at Burlington College, Community College of Vermont, Goddard College, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Rick has enlightened audiences about film history and comedy throughout Vermont.
