PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE
Our fourth Public Safety Committee meeting was held on Wednesday at Department of Public Works on Pine St. These meetings are primarily a public forum and are an opportunity for residents to voice concerns regarding safety in the city. We have now held them in the North District, Central District, East District, and South District. There has also been a request to hold a final Public Safety Committee meeting downtown so we have scheduled a final public forum for Thursday, November 5th, 7-9, at City Hall (Contois or RM 12, exact location TBD)
BURLINGTON TELECOM’S FUTURE
The city is beginning a process to sell off Burlington Telecom (BT). If a private company purchases BT (5000 subscribers), there is no guarantee of local control, quality service or affordable rates. A group of Burlington residents have started a cooperative, Keep BT Local, (http://www.keepbtlocal.com/) with the intent to purchase BT and run it in a way that is accountable to the people of Burlington. This will require considerable effort and fundraising to be successful. There will be an organizing meeting toward this goal on Tuesday, October 13th, 7:30-9.
