Mindful Parenting: Nurturing You and Your Family
This 6-week parenting group focuses on developing a mindfulness practice to support parents and families. We will explore the connection between the mind and the body, learn how to pull ourselves out of challenging situations so they don’t escalate, and discover possibilities that will lead to mutual respect, cooperation, and positive relationships at home. The class is taught by Deborah Feldman, M.A. and Sheryl Kurland-Platt, Ed.M
Each week will consist of learning and practicing mindful awareness. Drawing on the work of Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn, Daniel Siegel, Goldie Hawn and Thich Nhat Hanh, among others, the group will connect mindfulness practices with everyday issues at home. The group will discuss ways to make new choices. There will be exercises during group time that will anchor our learning and weekly practices to do at home to support positive parenting choices.
This 1.5 hour weekly parenting group is funded by the generous support of Hannah’s House. The Joslin Memorial Library is donating the space to hold the group beginning on Tues., Oct. 8th through Tues., Nov.12 from 8:30 – 10:00 AM. This class is suitable for beginners as well as those who have an on-going mindfulness practice.
Registration is necessary. For more information contact Sheryl Kurland-Platt (802) 793-8044.
