This Friday, October 9, the White Meeting House hosts its fall fundraiser, the Chicken Pie Supper. A Vermont classic, I think we should perhaps consider it the original prix fixe dinner.
Sure, sure, you think you know chicken pie suppers, and it never occurred to you to class it in the same category with prix fixe dining opportunities. But please, let me share the delightful menu, for your consideration:
CHICKEN PIE – oven-roasted and hand-shredded, topped with steaming gravy and plump biscuits
MASHED POTATOES – smashed russets kissed with milk and butter
GREEN BEANS – steamed then gently tossed with toasted almonds
BROCCOLI – chopped florets laced with bacon, dried grapes and sunflower seeds
COLESLAW – lightly-dressed mélange of shaved cruciferous vegetables
APPLE CRISP – local apples baked and browned to perfection, then topped with housemade, secret-recipe-worthy whipped cream
Okay, so technically there are only two courses, but, yes, for just $11 each ($7 for kids 8 and under), you get delicious handmade food that the whole family or group of friends can enjoy, and you don’t even have to dress up or hire a babysitter.
Seatings will be at 5PM and 6:30PM. Reservations for this delightful feast are appreciated (see link, below), although we will hold spots for spontaneous diners on a first come-first served basis. Show up on your own, or make a plan to meet up with friends there -- it’s an easy way to avoid cooking Friday night, get in a little socializing, and still have money left in your wallet – all while supporting an organization that does cool stuff in our community (from running the Good Neighbor Fund to hosting arts events, with lots of other projects in between).
