Important Public Forum on the Future of Public Access TV in Vt!

Tuesday, October 6 at 6pm at the Memorial Building in Hardwick the Department of Public Service (DPS) will be holding a public forum on the future of public access television.

You are invited to come and share in a group discussion about your local public access station Hardwick Community Television.  Comcast is in the process of renewing its Certificate of Public Good and the DPS is looking for feedback on the communication needs of our community, including the Public, Educational and Governmental services that HCTV provides.

As cable companies move more towards solely providing media on the web, there is no allowance for provisions set forth in the 1984 Cable Act to provide a forum for free speech, civic engagement, and freedom from monopolized media sources.  This is the time to encourage Vermont regulators to set obligations for Vermont's cable providers that will ensure Hardwick has access to local community media.

As you already know, HCTV broadcasts and archives all Hardwick and Woodbury Select Board meetings, Hazen Union Varsity Basketball Games, OSSU community forums, Woodbury School Board meetings, Hardwick Spring Festival, Town Meeting, Galaxy Bookstore readings, and many programs produced by local volunteers.  In addition, HCTV is a resource for video technology and offers free educational workshops to the public throughout the year.

Please attend this forum to support public media in Vermont!
